Email Encryption and Email Signing
Emails are sent as cleartext. Each node offers the possibility to attackers to intercept an email, so that the email can be read or modified. SMIME certificates ensure the validity, integrity and authenticity of your email's content. You can even protect the content by encrypting it, keeping it safe from uninvited readers.
SMIME stands for Secure Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions, a globally recognized standard for the encryption of emails.
Corresponding SMIME certificates consisting of a public one are required for using the SMIME encryption or signature
and a private key. With the public key, the sender of an email encrypts the confidential content that
the authorized recipient can then decrypt it again with his private key. Almost every email program is available for use
Designed by SMIME as an independent standard and SMIME also works with Mac OS or Windows and also on mobile devices.
SMIME certificates are possible in different classifications - from a simple validation to a
comprehensive authentication of entire companies. There is no standard for classifying, but certain standards have changed over time
Standards (Class 1, Class 2, Class 3) highlighted as generally advertised. Detailed advice on
Classification and recommendation for a certificate that meets your requirements can be found in our
Purchase Advice for SMIME certificates.

Exchange Server absichern
Securing Exchange Servers poses special challenges to the required certificate. The root domain will have to be protected by the certificate, as well as any internally used hostnames ending on ".local". Any additional second-level domains will have to be included too. Therefore multidomain certificates offer the best options for the encryption of multiple hostnames, and grant smooth functionality in conjunction with Outlook.
